Round 2 NZ Mtb Cup Series, Wellington

Round 2 NZ Mtb Cup Series, Wellington

The NZXC team set off on another road trip over the weekend. Early Friday morning we left Rotorua for the long 6 hour drive to Wellington. It was a busy weekend in Wellington with the Sevens rugby also being on as well as the NZ Mtb cup. The streets were filled with so many people dressed up and having fun, we had a good laugh driving through the city watching everyone and all the excitement.

We spent the next few days training and sorting out all the lines on the track getting ready for race day! The track was really similar to last year, It included lots of really steep climbs and some short sharp pinches, the downhill was technical with heaps of roots and drop offs. Over the weekend it became really loose with all the dust.

Race day was a very hot day, in particular for our race in the afternoon with temperatures over 25 degrees, making the climbs very hard. It was really hard to stay cool before the race and there were quite a few riders that suffered from dehydration and heat stroke. My race went really well, I had a good start pacing myself up the first long climb and went into the first decent in a good position, after a minor crash on the first downhill I got myself into a good rhythm and settled into my race. The track was quite different when pushing at race pace so it was really important to concentrate on all the decents. The track was all go with very little let up, the hard climbs followed straight into technical decents, one after the other, finishing with a lap aroung the velodrome dropping down the sets of stairs which was different but good fun. Our race was quite short only being three laps, I kept it pretty consistent on all my laps and finished 1st in the u19 girls.

Thank you to the NZXC team and all our sponsors, thank you to my coach and our manager Sam Thompson for all your support and to my Dad for feeding me. Thankyou also to Craig Pattle for all your help and to Carl for helping me out with lines on the track. Big thankyou to Tom Bradshaw and his family for letting us stay for the weekend! Hope your feeling better Tom! Overall it was another great weekend and I had a lot of fun with the team. Well done to all the other riders for a great weekend of racing!

My new bike has also finally arrived and it is all set up and ready to go! Thank you Trek for my new Trek Superfly Elite 29er! Finally switched over to the big wheels. First ride yesterday felt amazing and I love it ! Look forward to racing over the next few weekends!
